An interesting photo walk
Hey there, today I want to tell you about a photo walk I went to. The topic was flash photography, which was a little challenge for me. I didn’t really do it in a long time, because I was too busy getting the apertures and shutter times right in general. At night I tried to shoot long exposures so that wasn’t really an opportunity to use my flash either. So to have a teacher with expertise in flash photography and other photographers to bounce ideas off of was a really interesting chance for me to learn and experiment.
In general I learned, that flash photography isn’t as hard as I imagined. I have an old Olympus T20 flash which has a manual mode. You set up the ISO of your film and the back side then shows you the distance to your subject and up to what point the photo is still exposed well enough. I had a 400 ISO film in my Lomo Diana. That told me, I had to use f/8 up until 5m and f/11 up until 3m. I tried to utilize this and it worked like a charm. The Diana is quite quirky with some stuff, for example if you use the Instax Mini Back, the film has an ISO of 800. To get a good picture in daylight, you need to meter for ISO 100, which makes no god damn sense to me :D That led me to believe I would waste a lot more photos than I actually did. I don’t want to upload the pictures on my website, because they don’t really fit in, but you can find them on my Lomo Home and on my Instagram in a few days.
If you have any questions to any of my photos, feel free to contact me.
