Analog vs. Digital… but why?

For some time now I’ve heard discussions about analog photography being superior to digital photography and vice versa. And for some time I’ve participated in this discussion with a strong opinion about analog photography. While I stand by analog photography as my process of choice I’ve come to realize that this discussion does not lead anywhere. For me, analog photography is a form of artistic expression that forces you to slow down and think about what you do. You need to prepare and learn the craft and all the little processes that accompany it. I love every step of it and it elicits a feeling that digital photography has not managed for me.

Does this subjective feeling make analog superior to digital? Not at all. If you shoot digital, you have full control of the picture which is awesome, but it’s just not for me and that’s fine. Analog and digital are just different forms to express yourself within the exact same art form. I’m glad that so many people learn to love analog photography, because it shows its relevance even to this day. In the end it’s about the pictures you take, about the story you tell or the feeling you chase. Whether you get it analog or digital does not really matter.
